2016 Budapest

After a great visit to Prague, it is time to move on to Budapest.  I visited Budapest many years ago while on a whirlwind escorted tour.  I have always wanted to come back and really see what the city has to offer.

What a beautiful and interesting city.   The capitol of Hungary is also one of the EU’s largest cities.  Originally two cities…Buda and Pest…it was combined into one city in 1873.

Day 1 – After my quick flight and shuttle to my apartment, I was ready to start exploring.  I first explore the area around my apartment and then just before sunset, I take a river cruise on the Danube.

Next the Opera and dinner….

Day 2 – This morning I have a reservation to visit the Parliament.  This is one of the most beautuful government buildings I have ever visited.

Next, I follow a Rick Steves walking tour in the area near the Parliament.

Lunch at 0,75 Bistro and Bar

Evening at Christmas Markets

Day 3 – More walking, explorer and the Great Market.

WOW!  And it was as good as it looked.

Day 4 – Fisherman’s Bastion and Buda Castle Hill.

I have to use the word amazing again.  The Fisherman’s Bastion is an amazing place and should not be missed.

I arrived at Buda Castle in time to catch the changing of the guards.

Today I enjoyed one of my best meals of the trip.  I had hoped for dinner reservations but even 6 weeks in advance, Comme Chez Soi was booked.  There Foie Gras served table side was sooooo good.  The waiter brought me a complimentary sorbet and after dinner drink and the owner gave me a small bag of chocolates to take home.  This restaurant should not be missed on a visit to Budapest.  And the price?  Not expensive and a real bargain.

My final evening was spent wondering around and eating at a Christmas Market.
